Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Dumo The Fame (Pty) Ltd ("Dumo", "we") handles your personal information under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). It is pending final review by our legal advisers. We will tell you in the app if anything important changes.
1. Who we are
Dumo The Fame (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/806460/07, South Africa, runs the Dumo app and this website. Our Information Officer can be reached at [email protected].
2. What we collect
- Account: your mobile number (if you sign in with your phone), or your Google account's name, email address and Google ID (if you sign in with Google), your date of birth, display name, username, province and profile photo.
- Content: videos, captions, hashtags, comments, LIVE streams, gifts and messages you send in LIVE.
- Activity: follows, likes, views, reports and blocks, used to run your feed, count qualified views and keep Dumo safe.
- Device and technical: a push notification token, app version, device type, IP address and logs. We use these to deliver notifications, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- Earnings and payouts (creators 18+): your earnings, coin and gift history, and before your first payout: your South African ID number, a copy of your ID document, a selfie and your bank account details, so that we can verify who you are and pay you (FICA).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show your phone number, email address or date of birth on your profile.
3. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To show and recommend videos and LIVE streams, and to tell you when people you follow go LIVE.
- To keep Dumo safe: age rules (13+ to use, 18+ to earn, go LIVE or buy coins), reports, moderation and preventing fraud.
- To calculate earnings and pay creators, and to meet our legal and tax duties.
- To answer your questions and improve the app.
4. Who we share it with
Only with service providers that help us run Dumo, under contracts that require them to protect your information:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| DigitalOcean | App servers, database, LIVE streaming servers | United Kingdom; LIVE also in USA and India for viewers abroad |
| Cloudflare | Video storage and delivery, website, network security | Global, including South Africa |
| Google (Firebase, Google Sign-In) | Push notifications, signing in with Google | Global |
| SMS provider | Sending your sign-in codes | South Africa |
| Payment providers and banks | Coin purchases and creator payouts | South Africa / app stores |
Some of these providers process information outside South Africa. We only use providers in countries with adequate protection or under agreements that give protection similar to POPIA. We may also share information when the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. When you delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account), we remove your profile, videos and personal information, except records we must keep by law, such as payout and tax records, which we keep for the required period (usually five years). Backups are overwritten within 14 days.
6. Children
You must be 13 or older to use Dumo. Users aged 13 to 17 can watch, post and comment, but cannot earn, buy coins or go LIVE. If you believe a child under 13 is using Dumo, email us and we will remove the account.
7. Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. You can edit your profile and delete your account in the app, or email [email protected]. If you are not happy with our answer, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and regular backups. Copies of ID documents are stored separately with restricted access. No system is perfectly secure; we will tell you and the Information Regulator if a breach affects you.
